Vintage Theatre presents “The Goodbye People”

Nearing the end of his life, Max Silverman is determined to re-open his Coney Island hot dog stand, closed for decades, in the middle of Winter. In the freezing dawn, Arthur watches sunrises and dreams of life, all before work. Max's daughter Shirley, now Nancy, searches for meaning with the aid of her psychiatrist. The pursuit of this neon utopia raises questions of identity, culture, and existence itself on the very long walk off a very short pier. Written by Tony Award winning author of A Thousand Clowns, and I’m Not Rappaport.

The cast, under the direction of Jesse Larner, includes Roger Simon as Max Silverman, Eve Cohen as Shirley Silverman/Nancy Scott, Charles Wingerter as Arthur Korman.Stuart Goldstein as Marcus Soloway, Addison Parker as Eddie Bergson and Jon Diack as Michael Silverman.

• Prominent Installation Artist Gillian Waggoner is Scenic Designer for “The Goodbye People.”

◦ Though used to creating large-scale projects, this is the first time she will be working in a theater setting.  Part of her personal approach to art is to create using only found objects and recycled materials.  She is continuing in this vein for 'The Goodbye People', culling old building material, architectural odds and ends, and applying several of her own techniques to create the atmosphere of run-down Coney Island.

• Around 10 tons of sand will be used to create the beach setting.

• The publisher Samuel French had listed this play as out-of-print; a new printing was run for this show.
