Who We Are

Metro Denver loves the arts, science & culture - really!

Denverites enjoy culture so much so that we give a penny tax on every $10 we spend to support the arts, science and culture.  As these pennies add up, they help fund about 300 nonprofit organizations that provide enlightenment and entertainment for the community.  Every organization listed in the SCEN3 receives SCFD funds ~ a major reason why Denver’s cultural scene is so vibrant!

What is it? How does it work?

In 1988 Metro Denver’s cultural tax, the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), was approved by area voters. For the past 20 years metro Denver nonprofit cultural organizations have received these funds (more than $40,000,000 last year) to deliver new and exciting programs, performances, displays, classes, exhibits and tours to the public.

Why The SCEN3?

SCFD funds three tiers of cultural organizations. Tier III's are basically organizations with budgets under $1,000,000.   More than 250 arts, science and culturals in all seven metro counties that perform at neighborhood venues, exhibit at local galleries, have festivals in area parks and produce theatre receive SCFD funds.

These groups create stimulating, intimate and engaging performances and programs. They represent the cultural diversity that Denver neighborhoods boast about. They train teachers to include the arts and perform in schools. They are the network that connects the arts and science into every day life.  More information can be found at http://www.tieriii.org/
