VSA Access Gallery

Located in Denver’s hottest arts district, Very Special Arts (VSA) Colorado’s Access Gallery believes the arts play a vital role in everyone’s life. Each year, through our innovative programming, VSA Colorado serves more than 20,000 people with and without disabilities through the arts and strives to break down barriers that have historically kept people with disabilities and other underserved populations from experiencing all that the arts have to offer.

VSA Colorado was founded in 1978 as the Colorado affiliate of Arts for the Handicapped, part of the 1972 national educational initiative of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. VSA Colorado was granted 501(c)(3) status in 1981 and has enriched the lives of people with disabilities by providing access to arts experiences—regardless of socioeconomic status, race or culture, different ability, sexual orientation, or gender expression.

Since VSA Colorado’s founding in 1978, they have grown significantly in their capacity to serve both the disabled community and to educate the greater community about visitors the creative power of people with disabilities. VSA Colorado directly serves between 3,000 and 3,500 children, young people, and adults per year throughout 15 Colorado counties. In addition, Access Gallery reaches an additional 1,500 people each month. VSA Colorado has strong partnerships with schools, state and local arts organizations, nonprofits, and volunteers. In each of these relationships, VSA Colorado promotes the value of inclusion, irrespective of prejudice or perception.
