Stories on Stage
Celebrating its 12th Season, Stories on Stage brings great literature to life by presenting acclaimed national and local professional actors in dramatic readings of short works by exceptional authors. Stories on Stage has been described as theatre of the mind that is both innovative and compelling.
Each month we present a new show, starting in September and going through May. All of our shows offer complimentary homemade cookies and milk at the end. We encourage economic diversity at our season shows by offering name-your-price basis LoDough tickets, encouraging underserved audiences to feel welcome at our performances. Most of our Denver performances are at Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center in the Art District on Santa Fe, and in Boulder we perform at the Dairy Center for the Arts. We often partner with other organizations such as Colorado Music Festival, Lighthouse Writers Workshop, Louisville Cultural Council and Buntport Theater Company.
Notable actors in the 2012-2013 season include Kathleen Brady, Candy Brown, GerRee Hinshaw, Sam Gregory, Jamie Ann Romero, John Hutton, Jill Eikenberry, Michael Tucker, Shishir Kurup, Randy Moore, Jamie Horton, and Allison Watrous. Some favorite authors include Julia Alvarez, Don DeLillo, Jennifer Egan, Jim Harrison, O. Henry, Pam Houston, Joyce Carol Oates, Allison Parker, Gary Schanbacher, Lemony Snicket, John Updike, E.B. White, Joy Williams, and Alex Zentner.
The purpose of Stories on Stage is to nurture empathy and understanding among individuals as well as groups through performing arts programming that combines theater with literature. Our intent is inclusive: we present literary stories by writers of diverse cultural groups, read by professional actors of varying backgrounds to an audience that is as broad-based as our community.
